PGA Using Tarps For Golf Course Protection.

In recent years The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass has gone to great lengths to protect the greens. Extensive studies, including GPS computer models, have been conducted to see if shade factors such as trees effect the golf courses overall health is a positive or negative way. Although trees were shown to have little effect on the health and growth of grass on the course, factors such as extreme cold we shown to damage parts of the course.

The golf course is now using black tarps, which are scientifically engineered to allow moisture through the fabric. The golf course officials have found positive results by using the tarps during times that temperatures dip below 38 degrees. The fabric protects the grass but also absorbs and retains heat that is beneficial to the grass.

In an article by pgatour.com titled, "Multi-step plan from agronomy team readies Stadium Course for PLAYERS", writer Michael Curet goes into great detail regarding the recent study and how this may be a models for other golf courses.

Transparent Bubble Tents

French designer Pierre Stephane Dumas has created what could be argued as art rather than a functional tent. The bubble tent is a made of a clear, transparent material and are currently only available in Europe. Sure you can buy one, but be prepared to pay somewhere between 9 and 17 thousand dollars.

The globe shaped tent does not provide much privacy but never the less, these interesting portable shelters have become all the craze in European countrysides. Due to the transparent material, the bubble tent is not ideal in direct sunlight as the internal air temperature can rise quickly. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the bubble tent can become quite cold as temperatures drop at night.

However, despite the potential negatives, the bubble tent is fun, different and could be a blast for nighttime adventures. There are even some additional models that offer privacy barriers for those looking to spend the night in one of these unique portable shelters. More information about the bubble tent can be viewed in a recent article by the MailOnline.com titled, "Transparent bubble tent puts campers under the stars (but careful where you get undressed!"

Tarps Used Around The World.

Tarps are not only becoming more common in everyday applications but are also becoming more widely used by countries all around the world. The tarp cover has a few key characteristics that makes it the preferred choice for outdoor protection and privacy. Tarps are made of woven and laminated polyethylene for a finished product that is waterproof, lightweight and easily handled by one individual. Furthermore the tarps composition of HDPE fabric is naturally resistant to rot, mold and mildew. These beneficial characteristics along with the relatively low cost of production have launched the popularity of the poly tarp to the top in every industry around the world.

Tarps and there uses are prevalent throughout the world. Recently, medical responders and rescue workers in Chile erected tarps around the site at which 33 miners are trapped. As rescue attempts are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, engineers have began retrofitting the mine shaft with anchors and pulley systems. The rescue attempt is expected to take an extended period of time and one of the main concerns is eliminating distracting elements such as media coverage. In an article by the BBC titled, Chile rescue shaft 'nearly ready', officials stated that "Tarpaulins have now been erected around the site of the Plan B drill... They are restricting the view of the world's media, who have gathered in ever-growing numbers..."

Another example of the usefulness of tarps can be found in a recent article published by Plastemart.com titled, High Density Polyethylene Eyeleted Tarpaulins as packaging for fruits and vegetables. This article discusses how India has adopted the use of tarps in their agricultural industry. The tarp product will be converted into sacks for fruits and vegetables and it is said will help increase productivity and lower costs.

The tarp cover can be used for just about any practical application that comes to mind and can be used throughout the world to help benefit both individuals and industry. The strong, lightweight and durable nature of polyethylene is ideal for both commercial and residential use.

Preparing For The 2010 Hurricane Season

This year’s hurricane season is predicted to be the most active since the record breaking 2005 season. Every agency from Weather Services International to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are predicting that six to nine major hurricanes will make landfall. This is in part due to warmer water temperatures. Although the predictions are still premature, there is a much higher probability of above average activity if there is an immediate transition from El Nino to La Nina. An article from, ( Daily Finance ) discusses the potential financial devastation that this hurricane season could bring.

Despite the yearly predictions, it is always best to prepare for the hurricane season before any storms occur with essential hurricane supplies. Some of the necessary essentials include materials such as wood shutters, plywood, water, tarps and plenty of food. In addition to supplies, having a dependable evacuation plan is extremely important. In the event that a hurricane is forecasted for your area, pay close attention to broadcasts and obey all requests and warnings issued by your local government.
