Athletic Field Covers Are Ideal for Maintaining Gymnasium Floors

When many people think of athletic field covers, they think of the great outdoors. Although it is true that they are used outdoors, athletic field covers should also be used indoors. This is especially the case during the winter months and special events.

Here’s why:

Depending on the gymnasium’s age, the flooring may be constructed out of maple or a commercial grade rubber. If it’s a maple floor, there’s a good chance that it’s been coated with a clear polyurethane. The coatings used on commercial grade rubber flooring, on the other hand, tend to vary. Some companies coat the rubber with stain resistant materials. Other firms do not. Regardless, such flooring materials, if not cared for correctly, may sustain damage over time.

For example, during the winter months, gymnasium floors are exceptionally prone to damage due to three main substances. Those three substances are rock salt, other chemical deicers and moisture. All three substances may be tracked into the gymnasium thanks to the footwear and clothing of assorted visitors.

If left onto the gymnasium floor, the previously mentioned substances may cause a variety of damages. Those damages include, but are not restricted to discoloration, warping, weakening of the surface materials and cracking. Other items that may cause similar or additional damage to a gymnasium floor are high heels, tables, chairs, podiums and refreshments.
So how does one prevent such damage from occurring to their gymnasium’s flooring? That’s where the use of athletic field covers and routine maintenance can help. Take our athletic field covers as an example. They are made with a 10 oz. vinyl. The vinyl is designed to be extremely durable and provide protection against various elements. Those elements include salt, moisture, mildew growth, rot, harsh chemicals and oils. In addition, the athletic field covers are capable of being cleaned with mild soaps and tap water as needed.

Athletic Field Covers Help the Environment as Well as Protecting Your Sporting Event

Athletic field covers have become very popular in more recent years due to rainouts of sporting events creating far too many game cancellations. Rain can create such conditions that, without high-quality field covers, the ensuing mud and muck can postpone a game until a much later date. At Canopies and Tarps, we've designed very high-quality covers and tarps that not only help save the day in outdoor sports, but also help the environment.

Football Field Tarps

While the older days of football meant watching football players running in mud (and sometimes snow), a sudden deluge of rain no longer has to ruin the field with our quality tarps. We sell football field tarps both small and very large, even though they're easy to unfold in a manner of minutes. That's because we placed web loop handles around the tarp edges to ensure a quick unfolding procedure.

These are made to resist ultraviolet light as well, so they're environmentally friendly once the sun comes out. The polyethylene in the tarp ultimately helps prevent deterioration from the UV rays.

Baseball Field Tarps

We also have baseball covered (literally), and our tarps are made of the same materials as ones for football fields. These tarps also come in small and very large sizes that cover part or all of a baseball field when a major rainstorm comes in. Imagine going to see your kids at a Little League game and being able to see the game finish out the same day thanks to our tarps being so easily removable. If you live in rainy country, you'll appreciate having our tarps around to avoid those baseball games being rescheduled to a far-off date.

Covering Everything Else on the Field

We also cover mounds, home plates and bases on your baseball field, which can also get very muddy in a rainstorm. Our covers also cover considerable space around these areas so the immediate vicinity can stay clear of dampness. Once the game resumes, the covers essentially prevent injury, because slippery mounds, plates and bases can cause players to slip and fall.

It's Not Always About the Weather

Tarps and covers for athletic fields can go beyond protecting from rain or snow. Sometimes it's about privacy, especially during baseball practice. We also sell windscreen covers that can be conveniently set up around the borders of a playing field. This can prevent people from standing and looking in on the game. And to prevent tall gawkers from looking over the top, our covers are as high as 9 feet.

Large Tarps: Large Heavy-Duty Covers

In recent years there has become an increasing demand for poly tarps in larger sizes. Tarp covers are no longer being used as just simple canopy covers, but instead are being used in construction, athletics, commercial and government applications. The tarpaulin industry has experienced dramatic growth as the demand for product is reaching wider audiences. In response, CanopiesAndTarps.com has increased our inventory as well as added several new colors to our product line, including Clear Tarps, Tan Tarps and Blue Mesh Tarps. New growth is always expected however, in recent years the demand for larger size tarps has increased as consumers look for cost effective solutions to help protect property and valuables.

Poly Tarps provide the same dependable coverage as specialized products but for much less of a cost. Primary uses for large tarps include roof coverage, slope erosion control, athletic field covers and equipment protection. Large tarpaulin covers are available in both heavy-duty and regular duty varieties. The difference in quality is attributed to the tarps thickness and grommet spacing. Large, heavy-duty tarps are generally 12 Mil. in thickness and contain grommets every 18 inches. The heavy-duty tarp is designed for applications that require longer coverage where as the large, regular duty tarp is considered a multi-purpose cover for short-term projects. The regular duty tarp is 4-6 Mil in thickness and features grommet spacing every 36 inches. Both large tarp varieties are made with high-grade polyethylene fibers, which are heat laminated and retrofitted with, rust resistant aluminum grommets.

Polyethylene is the ideal fabric for outdoor applications due to its natural resistance to mildew and rot. Moreover, every poly tarp is fully waterproof and is UV treated inside and out with added fade blockers anti-aging, anti-yellowing and anti-microbial agents. The result is a cover that has the ability to stand up to the elements and provide substantial protection year after year.

Although there are many different sizes of poly tarps available, large tarps are beneficial because they complete the job with the use of one single cover. There is no need to purchase several smaller tarps, as has been the case in previous years. Large tarp covers are available in Blue, Green, Silver and White colors. Large tarps can be purchased starting at size 40’ x 60’ and are even available as large as 170’ x 170’. Each large tarp is packaged and shipped on a pallet through LTL trucking and has an expected delivery time of 4-5 business days depending on the destination.
